Learn More About LID and Earn 7.0 AICP CM Credits!

The Geronimo and Alligator Creeks Watershed Partnership invites you to attend a Low Impact Development (LID) Workshop on Wednesday, November 1st. The workshop will be held from 8am-4pm at the Irma Lewis Seguin Outdoor Learning Center located at 1865 US Highway 90 East in Seguin, Texas. The goal of the workshop is to better equip decision makers, as well as the public, so that they are able to consider the impacts of nonpoint source pollution in their daily activities.

Topics in the workshop will include:

  • linkage between land use types, water quality, and community character
  • reducing storm water runoff volume and improving water quality through use of LID structures and techniques such as use of permeable pavements, rain gardens, vegetated swales, “curbless” streets, and others to enhance flood control
  • and a site tour that will include: a rainwater harvesting system, two types of permeable pavement, a rain garden, vegetated swale, and a turf plot demonstration area of St. Augustine, Bermuda grass, Zoysia, Buffalo grass, and xeriscape.

The free workshop will be a combination of in-class presentations and outdoor demonstrations. Seven hours of American Institute of Certified Planner (AICP) credits will be available to attendees. Dr. Fouad Jaber, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Specialist in Integrated Water Resources Management, will explain how different LID techniques can help mitigate the harmful effects of urbanization on stormwater volume and water quality. The workshop is hosted by AgriLife Extension and Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority as part of implementation of the Geronimo and Alligator Creeks Watershed Protection Plan.

The workshop is free, and lunch is being provided, however, you should register in order to reserve your seat. If you have any questions about the workshop or want to register, please contact Ward Ling at 979-845-6980 or wling@tamu.edu
