For those who were not able to attend, we announced that the Call for Session Proposals for the 2016 Texas Chapter Conference is now open. As you all know the Texas Chapter Conference will be held here in San Antonio November 2-4 so we’d like for our local planning issues and successes to be front and center. Conference Planning Committees Update
Thanks to everyone who signed up to be on a Conference Planning Committee and for your patience as we gear-up on the planning effort. The Conference Theme/ Logo, Mobile Workshop, and Evening Reception Committees will be meeting this week to finalize preliminary recommendations that we will submit to the Chapter conference coordinators. If you signed up for one of these Committees you will receive an email from the Committee chair soon with the meeting day and time. A call-in option will be available for those who are not able to attend in person.

Conference Theme/ Logo Committee
Description: The Conference tagline is “Leading the Planning Movement in Texas.” The Conference theme and logo should highlight the San Antonio area’s unique identity. The Theme/ Logo Committee will submit at least 3 ranked theme and logo idea to the Texas Chapter by June 6.

Mobile Workshop Committee
Description: The Conference will feature 3 off-site mobile workshops featuring local projects, areas, or facilities of interest to planners. Workshops can be walking tours, river barge, bicycle, or bus tours, with durations ranging from 1.5 to 3.0 hours. The Mobile Workshop Committee will submit at least 6 ranked mobile workshop ideas with a brief description and schedule to the Texas Chapter by June 6.

Evening Reception Committee
Description: Ideas for venues are needed for the Wednesday 11/2 Opening Reception and for the Thursday 11/3 Big Event. Events may be off-site, but should be within a 5-10 minute drive to facilitate shuttle bus operations. Wednesday night venue will need to accommodate 400-500 people and Thursday night venue will need to accommodate 600+ people. The Evening Reception Committee will submit at least 3 ranked ideas for the Wednesday night reception and 3 ranked ideas for the Thursday night reception to the Texas Chapter by June 6.

We got a good start with our brainstorming session during lunch on Friday. The Committees will review ideas already submitted, brainstorm additional ideas, and generate a ranked list.
The May section meeting will be held May 27 from 11:30 to 1:00 at the Turquoise Grill, 3720 NW Loop 410. Sarah Esserlieu with the City of San Antonio’s Center City Development & Operations Department will be presenting on what the City is doing to encourage redevelopment of properties with potential environmental contamination as part of the effort to encourage infill development. The presentation will go over the types of assistance available for environmental site assessments, cleanup planning, technical assistance, as well as assistance cleaning up the site for redevelopment. 1.0 CM Credit will be available
