El Paso, the 19-th largest city in the United States recently adopted a comprehensive plan focused on principles of smart growth and green development. Plan El Paso has received awards from the American Planning Association and the Environmental Protection Agency for its bold vision of sustainable community development. The Plan presents strategies for creating walkable neighborhoods and districts to improve public health and a framework of transportation alternatives that include bicycle systems and transit.
